Our customized support services have become an academic lifeline for children who are impacted by homelessness and poverty. Our students know they can count on us for tutoring, mentoring, and educational advocacy, as well as backpacks and school supplies. School on Wheels of Massachusetts students are doing well in school despite the trauma of homelessness.
Our Tutoring Program is designed to foster the academic, social and emotional growth of students impacted by homelessness and poverty.
We match volunteers with a student or group of students to help with homework and school projects.
SOWMA’s Bridge Mentoring Program is helps high school and college-age students explore educational and career opportunities.
We place special emphasis on working with unaccompanied youth, ages 16 – 22, who are on their own without the support of a parent or guardian.
Many SOWMA students share one bedroom with their siblings & family members at a family shelter.
A backpack serves as their personal space and “locker.” Our backpacks include all the tools a student needs to succeed in the classroom. Our community of volunteers help ensure students have what they need to succeed.
