More than 24,000 students enrolled in Massachusetts Public Schools are identified as homeless.  COVID-19 resulted in the cancellation of more than 120 annual supply drives and group volunteer visits.  Simultaneously, there's been an increase in the number of children facing homelessness since the onset of the pandemic.  To keep our inventory in pace with the increasing need:

Families, businesses and groups can replenish supplies by safely donating from your home, community group or business!

Most of our backpack recipients share one bedroom with their family.  To have a backpack filled with grade-level school materials, books and essentials stored in a backpack keeps kids organized and serves as a personal locker!

We include letters, artwork and notes of inspiration with each backpack. Children and teens love to receive notes from supporters and peers.  It's a great way to teach empathy to your children.  Notes and drawings can be targeted to any age group.

Here's a fun family activity to add!  Create origami bookmarks with your kids!

BEGIN A SCHOOL ON WHEELS CLUB at school!

Kids Helping Kids!  Your children or teens can make a difference by forming a School on Wheels Club at their school or in their neighborhood or club. SOWMA Clubs coordinate school supply drives or stage events that promote and support the needs of less fortunate peers.  SOWMA Club leaders gain valuable leadership, philanthropic and team building skills.  When public health precautions warrant, SOWMA Club representatives gather at our headquarters to volunteer.
