During February school vacation, SOWMA's Commonwealth Corps members, Sana and Stephanie, assisted our families with a homemade kaleidoscope project.

As part of their year of service with SOWMA, Sana and Stephanie were tasked with creating a family enrichment activity that would be suitable for children in grades K-12, a very challenging task. After researching different ideas on the internet and in activity books on hand, they found the perfect activity: homemade kaleidoscopes.

Sana and Stephanie were in charge of preparing the instructions, linking the activity to common core standards, gathering the materials, and running the activity at each site. It was a huge hit! The parents enjoyed the activity as much as the children, if not more. At the end of the session, the families were able to take their creations back to their rooms.

"It was wonderful to see how much Sana and Stephanie have grown in their time with us. I loved listening to them explain how the kaleidoscopes work. They made sure that every parent and child had a working kaleidoscope before they left."
