High School Plus is one of SOWMA’s three programs. HSP is a personalized effort designed to help students impacted by homelessness stay engaged with their education through high school and pursue a college degree or vocational certificate. We place special emphasis on working with students who are considered unaccompanied youth, ages 16-22 who are not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian. More than 50% of SOWMA’s High School Plus students are considered Unaccompanied Youth.

School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) provides students with the tools they need for success in the classroom.  Our students deserve the chance to walk into school confidently just like every other student in school.  Each child is given a brand new customized backpack filled with new school supplies and a book of their very own.  All of our backpacks and supplies are collected and packed with love by community volunteers.

One hour a week is all it takes to help a child impacted by homelessness.  School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) recruits, trains and supports volunteers, who provide one-on-one tutoring for children in kindergarten through grade 12 living in  shelters and transitional apartments. To provide stability and consistency, tutors meet with students each week to reinforce grade level learning skills, work on school projects, and help boost the child's self-esteem.
